Booking reference, PNR and ticket number: what each one means
A booking reference, often called a PNR or record locator, is usually six characters. It identifies your reservation in the airline's system. It is what you enter to check in online.
A ticket number is a 13-digit number on an e-ticket. It proves the fare was paid and the ticket was issued. Having a reservation does not always mean a ticket has been issued.
A travel agency may also give you its own reference. That one identifies your order with the agency, so quote it when contacting the agency.
If an itinerary uses more than one airline, each airline may show a different reference for the same trip. Check your confirmation for the one that applies to each flight.
